30 years since the Srebrenica genocide – 30 years of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina

A commemorative and peace event on Saturday, 28 June 2025, at the Bernhard-Theater in Zurich: a peace walk, an exhibition, music, the testimony of a survivor and a panel discussion.

30 years since the Srebrenica genocide – 30 years of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina

In New York, the United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution designating 11 July as the International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica. The resolution condemns “without any reservation any denial of the Srebrenica genocide as a historical event” as well as actions that glorify those “convicted of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide by international courts”.

30 years after the Srebrenica genocide and the end of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, we cordially invite you to an interdisciplinary commemorative and peace event dedicated to remembrance, interfaith dialogue and building bridges between cultures. It is aimed at institutions and committed individuals who work for understanding, humanity and cohesion in our society.

Programme

  • from 17.00 – meeting point at Lake Zurich (Utoquai 1) and “peace walk” to the Opernhaus (approx. 15 minutes)
  • from 17.00 – exhibition in the theatre foyer
  • 18.00 – programme at the Bernhard-Theater: musical performance “Srebrenica Inferno”, talks by academics, the testimony of a survivor of the Srebrenica genocide, panel discussion

Venue: Bernhard-Theater, Sechseläutenplatz 1, 8001 Zürich

In the city of Zurich, shaped by cultural diversity, democratic dialogue and international openness, we wish to use this event to send a deliberately visible signal: for remembrance, for peace and for respectful coexistence in our society.
